IHRSA Appoints New Board Members

The International Health, Racquet and Sportsclub Association (IHRSA) is pleased to announce that Dr. Art Curtis, CEO of Millennium Partners Sports Club Management, LLC, was elected chairperson of the IHRSA board of directors effective July 1, 2010.

The IHRSA board also proudly welcomes its four other newly elected members:
- Richard Bilton, president, Companhia Athletic Clubs, Brasil
- Brent Darden, partner and general manager, Telos Fitness Center and Telos Consulting, Dallas, Texas
- Scott Gillespie, president, Saco Sport and Fitness, Saco, Maine
- Carol Nalevanko, president, DMB Sport Clubs, Arizona

Dr. Curtis succeeds David “Patch” Patchell-Evans, founder and CEO of GoodLife Fitness Clubs in Ontario, Canada, who will serve as ex-officio to the board, replacing Gene LaMott, who is also completing his board service on June 30. The four new Board members, who are succeeding Lynne Brick, Bob Shoulders, and Rick Beusman, will serve a 4-year term from July 1, 2010 through June 30, 2014.

Each new member brings a unique perspective and niche expertise that will strengthen the diversity of the board. As chairperson, Dr. Art Curtis’ breadth of knowledge and experience will ensure his success as a results-driven leader for the board, for IHRSA, and for IHRSA’s members. His proven business success and vigor for health and fitness make him an ideal choice for the new board chairperson. I am confident that his incisive leadership will augment the future growth and improvement of the health and fitness market.

Dr. Curtis said in a statement, “I am honored to have been selected by the board of directors as chairperson of IHRSA. I look forward to working closely with the members of the board and IHRSA staff to further advance the health and fitness industry.”

Christian Pierar, a strategic partner of IHRSA and chairman of the Belgium Fitness Federation, will act as a special advisor to the IHRSA board of directors. He has been active in the fitness industry since 1980 as an owner, international consultant, and presenter for different national and international associations. His commitment to help other business people in our industry be successful has led him to create and support such organizations as the Belgium Fitness Federation, Belgium Fitness Employer Organization and the European Health and Fitness Association. He has been a member of IHRSA since 1987 and became an IHRSA Vanguard member in 1993. Mr. Pierar has participated in all IHRSA conventions since 1987 and is an alumni of the IHRSA institute.
