New Brunswick Town Creates Free Outdoor Gym

RIVERVIEW, NB – This spring the town of Riverview New Brunswick purchased 12 rugged outdoor fitness machines and placed them alongside one of the town’s exercise trails.

“This is a first for Atlantic Canada, and a first in Canada for the newer, CSA-approved Green Gym equipment,” enthuses Gina McNeil, the town’s parks and recreation program coordinator.
The equipment was purchased directly from China where the idea of permanent outdoor exercise machines was born. The machines are arranged in four groups geared towards upper body, lower body, core or cardio. There are instructions on each piece.

“The equipment is made of metal, and it has a special weather-proof coating,” explains McNeil. “It’s rugged and should be able to withstand a lot.” One concern is that the bright paint colours may give the impression both to children and parents that it is children’s playground equipment versus an adult outdoor exercise area.

I think this is an excellent idea. My brother-in-law lives in California and they have something similar where he lives.

It’s something as a personal training business owner would live to get set up in my city.
