World Economic Forum Invites ICAA Leader to Join Global Network
| VANCOUVER, August 25, 2008 The World Economic Forum has invited Colin Milner, founder and CEO of the International Council on Active Aging® (ICAA), to join its new Global Agenda Council on the Challenges of Gerontology. Based in Geneva, Switzerland, the Forum is an independent, nonprofit organization “committed to improving the state of the world by engaging leaders in partnerships to shape global, regional and industry agendas.”
To further its mission, the organization is creating Global Agenda Councils of 15–30 members each on critical challenges facing humanity. This network will bring together leaders in business, government, academia and society who are “the most innovative and influential” thinkers worldwide on these topics, according to the Forum. The objective is to promote interdisciplinary and long-range thinking to address these issues. |

Milner heads ICAA, a professional association he formed in 2001 with the goal of Changing the way we age®. ICAA members develop wellness and fitness facilities and services for the older-adult market. Uniquely, the association unites professionals who share this focus across the retirement, assisted living, recreation, fitness, rehabilitation and wellness fields, supporting them with education, information, resources and tools to achieve optimal success. Today, Milner is widely regarded as a visionary on older-adult health and well-being. He will bring his knowledge of active aging and aging-related issues to the Challenges of Gerontology council and the Global Agenda Councils network.
Members of the Forum’s new “intelligence and knowledge network” include Julie Louise Gerberding, head of the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention; former US Vice President Al Gore; Elie Wiesel, writer, Nobel Laureate, and professor in the humanities at Boston University; Richard Levin, president, Yale University; and Vinton G. Cerf, Google’s Internet chief evangelist. Milner says he is “honored and privileged to join the Global Agenda Councils,” adding that he looks forward to working with the members of this illustrious group and to “speaking with the voice of ICAA members” on the world stage.
The Forum’s invitation “shows the impact the ICAA community has had in the seven years since we started the association,” observes Milner. “In North America, our community is making a difference and changing the way people age. Further, our community now extends to 34 countries, where individuals and groups are working to improve health, well-being and quality of life for adults 50 and older.” The invitation to join the Global Agenda Councils “provides a powerful opportunity for us to take the message of active aging to leaders around the world,” he concludes.
Approximately 700 members of the Global Agenda Councils will gather in Dubai, United Arab Emirates, in November for the inaugural Summit on the Global Agenda. This three-day event will allow participants to learn, share their knowledge and discuss solutions to the world’s most pressing issues. Outcomes will be presented at the World Economic Forum’s 2009 annual meeting “for further discussion and action.”
