Employee Compensation and Benefits Survey 2007
Club owners, general managers and human relations directors are always looking for information about fair, equitable, and competitive pay scales and benefits that appropriately reflect education, skills, experience, potential and local market conditions.
IHRSA has come to the assistance of club management with its annual survey, The Employee Compensation and Benefits Survey for the Commercial Health and Fitness Industry. This survey collects detailed compensation and benefits information for 50 common job titles. In the past, IHRSA has had nearly 1,500 clubs, representing more than 15,000 employees, participate in this comprehensive survey. The aggregated results of this survey appear in the Employee Compensation and Benefits Report which is complimentary to all participating clubs and to all subscribers to Fitness Business Canada magazine and FitNet enews in Canada.
IHRSA was the first association to create a comprehensive report of this kind. This is the only survey to track compensation and benefits packages of corporate personnel. In addition, the survey tracks salaried and hourly paid job titles, such as General Manager, Fitness Director, Sales/Marketing Director, Personal Trainer, Pilates Instructor, Yoga Instructor, etc. The survey is managed by Industry Insights, a trusted research vendor providing services to associations for over 25 years. Depending on the number of club staff members, the survey could take 1-2 hours to complete. In appreciation of a facility’s time, IHRSA will send each participating club a complimentary copy of the aggregated survey results.
The report not only pinpoints the average pay for 50 positions but further qualifies the figures on the basis of total annual sales, geographic region, type of operation, and number of clubs owned, making it easier for the reader to draw accurate comparisons with their own club. It provides equally detailed information about more than 20 different employee benefits. The report also includes data on the average level of education and length of tenure for key positions.
“Hopefully, every IHRSA member and FBC subscriber will be able to find information that’s relevant to their club,”explains Katie Rollauer, IHRSA’s senior manager of research. This will be especially true in the case of small operations since 78% of survey respondents own just one club.
Compensation serves as a valuable guide for clubs when they’re hiring new employees, considering raises for current staff, or reviewing their compensation/benefits packages, and as a “reality check” when creating or revising job descriptions.
Visit www.ihrsa.org/research to learn more about participating in this important survey and to reserve your complimentary copy of the Employee Compensation and Benefits Report. This service is free to Fitness Business/FitNet subscribers!
